What's better than a venture?

An adventure, of course.

Welcome to West Meets East, a blog where you can follow Naomi and Elan's year in Toronto. I'm hoping this space will become a bit more sophisticated and yes, esthetically-pleasing, over time. Check back for updates, as we'll try to write whenever we get a chance. Comments are much appreciated, since well, I can't write so much as a shopping list without an audience.

Elan and I arrived here after eight nights and nine days of driving across Canada. I was absolutely prepared for the road trip to seem endless, monotonous, cramped, and dull, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it exhilarating. Few things can compare to the joy of truly seeing one's country for the first time, and Canada was no disappointment.

From wildlife sightings, to bizarre weather, to hilarious rural outposts and side-of-the-highway diners, Canada was an endless study in contrasts and contradictions. With Caryl's shiny new Rough Guide to Canada in my lap, I was seeing this land like never before, and beginning to understand how foreigners might see it as well. It is a truly beautiful, bizarre, fascinating place, and I'm proud to say it was anything but boring.

I've made a silent promise to my friend Cyrina in Holland that I would keep my posts short, so I'll sign off on this first one.

Looking forward to telling you more about our trip, and our new home-for-now.

Much love to you all, and to my dear Vancity...
